When and why do you need EN 1176 certificated playground equipment?

The EN 1176 standard has been published to harmonise European standards from different countries. All settings besides private home backyards are considered “professional” and can only place commercial climbing frames with an EN-1176 certification. When placing outdoor playsets in other non-private-backyard settings, an EN 1176 certification is mandatory. Differences with commercial swing and slide sets are in the frequency of use and materials; Hy-land climbing frames for public use are designed for intensive, more rigorous use. Installation, inspection and maintenance professional climbing frames

Hy-land outdoor play equipment for public use is only EN 1176 certified when assembled exactly according to the instructions and routine safety checks are conducted with the checklist and logbook provided. A few examples are to check for broken or missing parts, check if all bolts and screws are in place and tight and check if the surface material is still in place. Anyone can do these simple routine checks and keep a logbook. In case commercial playground equipment does not comply with all aspects of the EN 1176, the officials can insist on taking it down so therefore we highly advise to carefully follow the assembly, inspection and maintenance instructions provided.
